Be Good to Yourself 2019

Take the time this year to get away and balance Take the time this year to get away and balance

Most people know that the top New Year's resolutions made are for better health and balance of responsibilities with time to enjoy the important things.

When thinking of health, many will run out and join the gym or pick up the latest Pilates video series with hopes of refining their body. What are other things that effect this overall goal? For many, living a fast paced life means there is little time to pause and enjoy the world around them. This is shown to drastically effect health adversely.

At St. George's Caye Resort and surrounding destinations we see travelers for many reasons. Guests may be celebrating the beginning or rekindling of romance, bucket-list diving, seeking adventure, or just to escape from it all.

Most importantly we see people begin their trip still wanting and needing to feel connected with their phones. Slowly but surely that "connection" become less and less important as they reconnect with life, environment and relationships. NBC News featured an article on 5 Scientifically Proven Health Benefits to Travel

With all of these compelling reason to travel and admittedly, a pretty sizable planet, how do you narrow where you are going this year?

If you thrive in an urban environment, you may want to travel to New York City or London. If you are meant to brave the wilderness, working to survive the elements, possibly Tanzania or Nepal suit your travel fancy. Conversely, if you wish to relax and be pampered while completely unplugging and enjoying adventures of a lifetime, Belize may be just the ticket.

Cheers and see you in the sun in 2019!

Belize Unites to Celebrate Independence

Belize Unites to Celebrate Independence

On September 21, 2018 Belize will celebrate their 37th anniversary of independence. This day commemorates when the nation was granted independent status by Great Britain in 1981. Celebrations run from 'St Georges Caye Day' on September 10th right up until Independence Day, on September 21st. During this time, Belizeans and tourists alike partake in prideful flag waving, display of colorful patriotic decorations, numerous vibrant parades, lively singing and dancing, carnivals, and indulgence in tasty feasts of local Belizean cuisine. There are also official flag raising ceremonies and more solemn observances, along with educational events on Belize's history and culture. The celebrating continues for much of the month and is known collectively as "The September Celebrations."

Stay and Play This Independence Day

September is a great time to venture to Belize. Tourism is still in the lower season so great group rate discounts and other specials are plentiful. Diving is desirable year round and at this time of the year can be coupled with other cultural excursions or just a little R&R

 A Brief History of Belize

European colonists first arrived in the area in the 1500s and clashed with the surviving remnants of the ancient Maya Empire. Early attempts by Spain to formally annex Belize were hampered by strong resistance from the Maya. English buccaneers later gained a foothold on the coast region, using the area to launch attacks on treasure-laden Spanish ships from Panama and Venezuela. By the early 1700s, English settlers known as "Baymen" established a presence in Belize, logging the valuable hardwood for export back to Europe. Today, the Belize flag features a stylized English "Bayman" logger in recognition of this part of the country's history. Although the Spanish initially tolerated the presence of English settlers in the area, things came to a head in 1786 when the British government appointed an administrator to oversee the region. After several years of clashes, the British gained full dominance over the region following a decisive naval battle off the coast of St. George's Caye on September 10, 1798, a date now celebrated as a national holiday in Belize. In 1862, Britain formally annexed the area, naming it British Honduras (after the Bay of Honduras, not the modern-day country of Honduras). In 1954, constitutional reforms were enacted and a constitution was written. In 1964, Britain awarded the colony self-rule and George Price became the colony's first premier. In 1973, the colony was renamed Belize and the country was granted full independence in 1981.

Favorite Underwater Sights Diving Near St. George's Caye

BlueHoleArea-39 The beautiful coral near the Blue Hole & Lighthouse Reef
We regularly get questions from scuba divers as they prepare for their trip to Belize.

What is it like diving the reef in Belize? Which fish and animals am I most likely to see?

Snapper:  So here is a list of our favorite underwater sights on the reef near St. George's Caye.  From our island, it's only a 5-15 minute boat ride to a variety of pristine dive sites.  We are the only dive resort in the area, so there are no other boats or divers - it's like having the reef all to yourself!  Many of the fish and creatures that divers encounter can also be seen on our private guided snorkel trips over the coral reef.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE DIVING IN BELIZE

Snapper:  many varieties, including:  Gray, Dog, Mahogany, and Yellowtail

Parrotfish:  Stoplight (pictured below), Rainbow and Queen

Grouper:  Nassau and Black

Angel fish:  Gray, French and Queen

Needlefish

Puffer fishe

Green moray eel and Spotted moray eel

Nurse sharks

On the Belize reef you will also see Barracuda, Snook, Squirrelfish, Wrasse, Horse-eye jacks, Belize permit, Tarpon, Bonefish, Fairy Basslet, Spotted eagle ray, and Stingrays.  (We also have a beautiful, but invasive species named the Lion fish.  We removed over 1,000 from the reef in October 2016 during our Lion Fish Dive Tournament).

Pictured above: Resort Manager Barry spears a lionfish on a dive near St. George's Caye

Our warm Caribbean waters also have Squid, Conch, Octopus (more often seen on Night Dives!), Dolphins, and the ever-popular Green sea turtles and Hawksbill turtles (so cute!!).

Pictured above: Snorkel guide and sea turtle near Hol Chan Marine Reserve

In the waters of Belize, you can also see a variety of Jellyfish, Blue Tang, Lobster (if you enjoy eating lobster, the season is mid-June to mid-February), and a variety of coral:  Stag Horn coral, Brain coral, Elk Horn coral, plus many more.

Want to know more?  Here's a fantastic website with "dive reports" on the fish species seen while diving in Belize.

Belize Listed Top Underrated Tourist Destination by the Daily Telegraph

Aerial View Our beautiful remote island getaway

Have you seen the news? In an article published in the Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper, Belize was ranked among 15 of the most underrated travel destinations in the world! What wonderful news for our beautiful country. We hope this encourages more people to visit our little slice of paradise in the Caribbean with beautiful beaches, an abundance of history and culture, and amazing dive spots like the Great Blue Hole and Belize Reef.

The author of the article writes, "One joy of traveling here is how empty Belize seems. While neighboring Mexico and Guatemala are famously populous and exuberant, here the roads are quiet, the beaches are relaxed and the archeological sites are often blissfully free of crowds."

Can you imagine a vacation with little to no people? That's exactly what you'll experience here at St. George's in Belize!

Best Things To Do in Belize

Based on years of introducing guests to this amazing travel destination, the team at St. George's has a list of our favorite activities, besides the awesome diving and snorkeling on the nearby reef. We can introduce you to these spots with our in-house tour guide on small, private tours. See everything you want, ask all the questions, take all the pictures!

  • Cave tubing and jungle zip-lining
  • Lamanai Maya ruins
  • St. Herman's Cave and Blue Hole National Park
  • Belize Cultural Adventure
  • Day trip to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye

Our island's close location the the mainland means you have easy access to jungle adventures to see Maya ruins and you won't waste precious time traveling back and forth. We're the perfect island location if you want privacy and seclusion, but also be close to all the adventures and fun of Belize!

What is a Resort Dive?

StGeorgesCayeUW-207 Learn to Dive on the Belize Reef

Learning to scuba dive is an amazing experience, but not everyone is ready to jump in for the full open-water scuba certification course. That's where the resort dive comes in!

A resort dive is a safe and excellent introduction to scuba diving that requires no previous diving experience. The half-day course is very popular because it lets you experience the underwater world without having to invest a lot of time.  The open-water certifications require classroom time, an exam and take 4-5 days to complete.

The experience and cost for a resort dive can be credited towards further training if you later decide to get SCUBA certified (usually for a period of six months).

What's Included in a Resort Dive?

Resort courses are a half-day and may include your dive equipment such as BCD (buoyancy control device), regulator, gauges, tanks, and weights. During the course you receive basic training from a Certified Dive Instructor (CDI) on safety and equipment, followed by a dive in open-water to a maximum depth of 30 feet. After completing the course, you are free to dive as many times as you like as long as it is with a CDI and the depth is no deeper than 30 feet. Most dive centers in tourist locations offer this introductory half-day course. SSI calls the course "Try Scuba" NAUI calls it "Try Scuba/Passport Diving" and PADI calls it "Discover Scuba."

Our resort has a SSI-Certified Dive Center and we offer "Try Scuba" to our guests.  In fact, you can complete the introductory session with our CDI for FREE in the pool!  Afterward, if you like it, we will take you out to the reef for your official resort dive.  The dive sites are only 5-10 minutes away by boat.

12 Things To Do in Belize When Not Diving

Belize-Cave-Tubing-1 Cave Tubing on a jungle river

Belize has become a popular tourist destination for many reasons:  the fabulous weather, friendly people and the fantastic variety of activities on land and in the water - especially the scuba diving and snorkeling.

As a scuba diver, you are no doubt considering Belize because of the second longest barrier reef and bucket-list dive sites like Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye, Great Blue Hole, and Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The diving here is out of this world! We know you won't be disappointed.

But even the most avid diver needs surface time. So, what else is there to do in Belize?  We've compiled a list for you!

12 Things To Do in Belize When Not Diving

  1. Visit Maya ruins such as Xunantunich, Caracol, Altun Ha, Cahal Pech, and Lamanai. Tikal is just over the border in Guatemala and also accessible as a day trip.

  2. Relax with a hot stone massage.

  3. Whiz through the jungle canopy on a zip-line tour.

  4. Take a guided fishing trip for the "big three" of tarpon, permit, and bonefish. If you prefer to reef fish, you are likely to catch snapper, grouper, barracuda, and more.

  5. Kayak through the mangroves and along the reef.

  6. Try the standup paddleboarding on the calm waters around the mangroves and cayes.

  7. Go cave tubing on a jungle river with headlamp and helmet.

  8. Take a helicopter or plane ride over the iconic Great Blue Hole.

  9. Visit beach bars and go shopping in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye (La Isla Bonita). You can also try parasailing or sky diving while in San Pedro!

  10. Buy gorgeous handmade arts and crafts from locals.

  11. Drink tropical cocktails and Belikin beers on the beach.

  12. Watch the sunset from a swimming pool (you have the perfect location at St. George's!)

Many of these recommended activities can be done here, or on one of the private guided tours we offer from St. George's Caye Resort. If you want more jungle time, we also have jungle-beach combo packages where you spend three or four nights on the mainland of Belize, then you come to our island paradise for the remainder of your trip.  We are less than a mile from the reef for diving, diving, and more diving.

My tip - set a reminder to check multiple times every day and be ready to BUY when you see a good deal!"

How warm is the water in Belize?

Diving the reef near St. George's Caye Belize

We get this question often as guests plan their trip to Belize: how warm is the water?

Water temperatures in the ocean off St. George's Caye range from 78-84 degrees, depending on the time of year. Ideal for swimming and snorkeling in the Caribbean right off our docks! (Snorkel gear is free of charge. So are kayaks and Hobie Cat sailboats!)

Belize Water Temps by Month

January, February, March, April -- water temp 78 to 79 degrees

May -- outside temps and water temps increasing

June, July, August, September, October -- water temp around 84 degrees

November -- water and outside temps begin to cool off

December -- water temp dips below 80 degrees

Will I need a wet suit to dive the Belize reef?

That depends on you and how deep you plan to go. Most divers get away with a 3ml "shorty" wet suit here, especially in the summer when the waters get above 80 degrees. The full service dive shop at St. George's has wet suits you can rent if you decide you need one.

When's the best time to visit the Belize cayes?

We think Belize is wonderful all year round -- out on the cayes (keys), we call it "endless summer" with palm trees and white sand beaches. The coolest time -- meaning temps in the upper 70s and low 80s -- is in winter, from December through March or April. New Fishing Packages for "Grand Slam" Season in Belize

School of fish in Belize

When's the best time to fish in Belize?

Fishing here is excellent year-round, but the best times to catch the "Big Three" of tarpon, bonefish, and permit is in June, July, and August. We call this Grand Slam Season. (This is also a time when you can find the lowest airfares to Belize!)

To help you plan the perfect trip, we're excited to announce four new Fishing Packages -- from a short weekend trip with one day of fishing, to a full-week fishing extravaganza complete with unlimited beer in our Sand Bar Lounge. And fishing off our docks is always complimentary.

Summer 2018 Special = $100 Credit Per Night!

This May through September, we're offering an extra incentive: get a $100 credit per night stayed when you book any fishing package for two people directly with the resort. How cool is that?

But isn't it hot in the summer?

Yes, it feels very tropical! :) In general we experience temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s (with a few days over 100 but not many), and on our island we have a nearly constant breeze. All room have a/c and fans, and there is plenty of shade and cold beverages. Be prepared for the occasional thunderstorm, usually passing over at night. Summer is considered "rainy season" in Belize, but that's more for the mainland than the cayes (pronounced "keys"). Learn more about our weather here.

"The Big Three": Tarpon, Permit, and Bonefish

Did you know the shallow waters of Belize contain the only classic tarpon flats outside of Florida? Our flats offer the opportunity to site cast to tarpon 12 months of the year. Tarpon numbers begin to increase in April and May and drop off in September or October, with the peak months being June, July, and August.

Permit are found on what is called “the bonefish flats” and on many of the tarpon flats as well. They are found in large schools and range from four to thirty pounds, with the majority in the range of eight to ten pounds. Jack crevalle, barracuda, cobia, and snook are also found on the flats and in the mangrove lagoons.

The bonefish in the waters of Belize run from two to five pounds and are plentiful year-round. Most fly fishing for bonefish is done from the bow of the boat, but there are flats that may be waded as well.

What are you waiting for?  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Visit this summer for the special introductory offer of $100 credit per night stayed!

Belize in the News: Hot Travel Destination for 2018

Belize-tropical-paradise_cabana-at-St-Georges-Caye-island-resort

Did you see Belize in the news? Our little country is making headlines as a "hot" travel destination in 2018 - and a great place to live, too.

BELIZE: BEST PLACES TO TRAVEL IN 2018

MSN Lifestyle included Belize in their list of the hottest destinations to visit in 2018. The article explains that Belize’s raw beauty and stunning barrier reef make it one of the best travel destinations to visit this year. “Belize is undoubtedly one of the ‘hottest’ coolest destinations to visit this year,” the article states.

And it's easy to see why - with the variety of activities from cave tubing and climbing ruins, to diving the barrier reef and relaxing on one of the many islands dotting the coast - Belize has a lot to offer for such a small country. Not to mention friendly, welcoming locals and amazing food, all in a Central American country that accepts US currency and speaks English as the official language. Sounds good, doesn't it? What are you waiting for? The flight is less than three hours from several US airports like Houston, Dallas, and Miami.

BELIZE: A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, TOO

According to an article from the popular website, Live and Invest Overseas, Belize is one of the best places to live in 2018. They identified San Pedro on Ambergris Caye as number 4 on their list; “They compete with the best the Caribbean has to offer.”

The article ends by encouraging readers to include Belize in their list of places to visit in 2018. We couldn't agree more! And our close location to the mainland makes St. George's a great home base for exploring Belize as a possible place to live, from Placencia and Hopkins on the southern coast to the famous Ambergris Caye in the north and many wonderful little communities in between.

Need help planning your trip to Belize? This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for advice on designing your perfect Belize vacation. CAN WE STAY AT AN ISLAND RESORT AND STILL SEE THE MAINLAND?

Yes, definitely! We know not everyone wants to sleep in the jungle and that is okay. You can stay on the beach in one of our private thatch cabanas and take advantage of our guided tours to see more of Belize.

At St. George's we offer a variety of day trips to the mainland so you can climb Mayan ruins or float through caves in an underground river or visit museums and the Belize Zoo. Our convenient central location only 7 miles from Belize City makes for quick travels back and forth for your jungle adventures (it's about a 20 minute boat ride each way).

The best part about staying at St. George's is how close we are to the reef - and with no other dive resorts nearby so you have privacy and seclusion. Explore the barrier reef while diving or snorkeling and you'll likely not see another boat or diver besides our group. You'll see a wide variety of coral and fish and even the occasional dolphin or manatee!

Flying to Belize Keeps Getting Easier (and Cheaper!)

Flying to Belize Keeps Getting Easier (and Cheaper!)

Two more direct flights to Belize City (BZE) from North America have been announced, making it even easier to get to our beautiful Central American country!

The world-class snorkeling and diving on the barrier reef, the Mayan ruins and jungle adventures, and the really friendly native people have all made Belize a popular travel destination over the past few years. Belizeans love showing off their country and the natural beauty, history, culture, food, and adventures.

But for a long time one of the barriers for people getting to Belize was the high cost of airfare. We are thrilled that is less and less of an issue as more airlines add routes to Belize such as Southwest Airlines and West Jet out of Canada!

We are finally seeing affordable airfare to Belize which means it's time for you to come and visit. Right?

NEW DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM DENVER AND TORONTO

Recently Southwest Airlines announced a second direct flight into Belize from the US, this time from Denver International Airport. They plan to start service on a trial basis in spring 2017 and based on demand, they will continue this route. Southwest also offers direct service through Houston Hobby International Airport.

Canadians are about to have their first direct flight from Canada to Belize on West Jet. The new route starts in October of this year, just in time for a fall vacation or winter holiday in the Caribbean!

Many Belize island resorts and jungle resorts have been offering specials to Canadians to help them afford a trip to Belize in 2016 since the Canadian dollar has been so weak. Like the awesome Canada Special Cap'n Ron is offering right now for a stay at St. George's Caye Resort!

AFFORDABLE AIRFARE TO BELIZE IS NOW A REALITY

Competition, especially from one of the low-price airfare leaders Southwest Airlines, means that all airlines flying into Belize have lowered their fares. Hooray!

It used to cost $800-$1000 roundtrip or more, even in low season. But now we are seeing roundtrip flights from many US cities for only $400! Even the bigger airlines like Delta Airlines and United Airlines now offer relatively cheap flights to Belize thanks to increased competition and increased demand.

And the increased demand makes sense. Look at how beautiful it is here!!

WHICH AIRLINES FLY INTO BELIZE

To help with your trip planning here is a list of the airlines that fly into Phillip S. Goldson International Airport in Belize City (BZE) and the connecting cities in North America and South America. Belize travelers from more far-off destinations like the UK, Europe, and Asia will need to connect through one of these airlines.

American Airlines Dallas/Ft. Worth, Miami
Avianca (Taca) San Salvador
Delta Airlines Los Angeles, Atlanta
Southwest Airlines Houston Hobby, Denver (spring 2017)
Tropic Air Cancun, Merida, Flores
United Airlines Houston, Newark (Chicago, seasonal)
US Airways  Charlotte, N.C.
West Jet Toronto (October 2016)

The Belize airport website keeps a current list of airlines serving BZE and it can be found here: http://www.pgiabelize.com/airlines.htm

TIPS FOR FLYING WITHIN BELIZE

For most visitors to Belize, once you arrive at the international airport you will need to take another flight -- what we commonly refer to as an island hopper flight. The two airlines in Belize are Maya Island Air and Tropic Air and both offer short flights to a handful of destinations within Belize and neighboring countries. This is by far the fastest and easiest way to get around the country as Belize has limited paved roads and public transportation options.

But if you stay with us on St. George's Caye, you don't have to worry about the time or cost of an additional flight. Yes, really!

Your airport greeting and roundtrip ground/sea transfers to our Belize island resort are part of your all-inclusive vacation package. Plus, our proximity to the mainland and Belize City (only 7 miles offshore) means you don't waste precious vacation time traveling to your destination. You are on our island in the Caribbean within an hour of exiting customs at the airport, compared to the 2-4 hours it can take to get to resorts in San Pedro and Placencia.

As we like to say here at St. George's, with us you get an extra day of vacation!

WHY AND HOW WE SUPPORT EDUCATION AND TEACHERS

WHY AND HOW WE SUPPORT EDUCATION AND TEACHERS

Recently we've had guests ask, "Why do you offer a Teacher Bonus?"

So here is Cap'n Ron to elaborate on why education is so important to him and St. George's Caye Resort.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_0799-2.JPG

The value of a good education is universally acknowledged in the western world – opportunity for better jobs, ability to make better life decisions, more awareness of the world, more understanding of and compassion for others, etc. Sometimes, however, people who are fortunate enough to have access to quality education take it for granted. We sometimes don’t see, or we forget that a significant number of people don’t have this advantage.

I ask myself, “What if the next Jonas Salk, Martin Luther King, Albert Einstein or Nelson Mandela never has the chance to achieve anything because she or he did not have the opportunity for education?” Our world is so much the poorer for not having met the great achievers, the great potential contributors who do not get to blossom due to a lack of educational opportunity.

Students Must Pay to Attend High School in Belize

In the United States, Canada and Western Europe, education is considered a right and governments take responsibility for making education available. In Belize, education is provided for everyone through the elementary level only. Beyond elementary, there is a cost – for tuition, books, uniforms, as well as transportation and meals – that is beyond the reach of a significant percentage of the population. The result is that thousands of young people never get the chance to attend middle school, high school and beyond. Statisticians will tell us that there are great achievers in that group of uneducated people who just didn’t have the opportunity.

Scholarship Program at St. George's Caye Resort

As a successful private island resort, St. George’s is dedicated to helping identify the achievers and supporting their education – hoping to see more young people achieve their potential. Our staff not only takes pride in showing guests the Blue Hole, Mayan ruins and other jungle adventures, the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and other Belize landmarks, but they also fund and operate a scholarship program, currently putting six students through school in Belize.

Your Stay at St. George's Helps Us Support Students

Guests at St. George’s choose between an overwater bungalow (sometimes called an over-water casita) or a private oceanfront bungalow (beachfront thatch ambience!) or a cozy garden cabana. You might come to learn to dive in Belize, experience adventure travel in Belize, or come for an anniversary trip. Whatever you choose to do, with our all-inclusive packages and excellent Belize resort deals, our guests get the extra benefit of supporting the education of young people.

b2ap3_thumbnail_TEACHER-BONUS-2.png

Educators get extra special treatment at St. George’s. Our summer program last year with huge discounts was very popular with teachers, and this year we are offering a $100 Resort Credit to educators (and students!) over and above our sizzling Summer Specials. That means you can get a free jungle tour for two AND a $100 credit to spend on a massage or guided snorkel to the Belize Barrier Reef.

So tell the teachers and educators in your life that they deserve a relaxing summer break in Belize - and to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for their free Teacher Bonus.

Thank you to our guests for helping us find and support the undiscovered great achievers!

Blues 'n Belize: How It Got Started on Our Little Island

Blues 'n Belize: How It Got Started on Our Little Island

Cap’n Ron, owner of St. George’s Caye Resort, is a music lover and has hosted musicians for house concerts on a number of occasions at his home in Portland, Oregon.  Resort manager Barry is a huge fan of Blues music and spent part of his career (before moving to Belize to manage St. George’s!) working with Grammy-award-winning Blues pianist Pinetop Perkins.

Both Cap'n Ron and Barry felt our private island resort offered a unique and intimate atmosphere for live acoustic music, so after reaching out to some industry connections, we hosted our first Blues 'n Belize with Doug MacLeod and Phil Wiggins in November 2015.  (Read more about the inaugural event: Blues in Belize :: A Private Island Blues Experience)

“My heart was full the entire week, full with the wonderful music of Phil and Doug and their generous teacher spirit, full with the beauty of St. George's Caye, full with the welcoming spirit of the staff and guests, with the other-world beauty of the reef. I must add that my stomach was full with the delicious meals prepared by Ernesto. I believe that we all felt the magic at some point during that special week.”
– Marc P., guest at Blues ‘n Belize 2015

Cap’n Ron is excited to announce our next Blues 'n Belize with
five-time Blues Music Award nominee Fiona Boyes.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Fiona-boyes.jpg

At Blues ‘n Belize you get a tropical vacation with superior amenities AND the incredible experience of private “house concerts” with world-class musicians.

Spend your days lounging around our island paradise, enjoying complimentary watersports like kayaking, standup paddle boards, sailing, and swimming. Get a massage in the island spa or join our guides for snorkeling and diving on the Belize Barrier Reef, only a few minutes away by boat. Or take guided tours to the mainland to zip-line, cave-tube, or explore Mayan ruins in the jungle.

b2ap3_thumbnail_facebookcoverimage_may2014.jpg

No matter how you fill your days, you’ll spend your evenings with a small group of interesting people (new friends!) from around the world – enjoying a delicious dinner on the oceanfront dining porch, then listening to live Blues music with a Belikin beer in your hand (or a drink with an umbrella, if you prefer).

Doesn't get much better than that, does it?!

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. We only have room for 25-30 guests for this incredible week of music in May. (But stay tuned -- more artists joining us later in 2016!)

Exciting News: Adventure Tours Now More Affordable!

Exciting News: Adventure Tours Now More Affordable!

Popular excursions like Cave Tubing, Zip Lining and exploring the ancient Mayan temples are thoroughly enjoyed by our guests, and to many visitors are a “must-do” while in Belize. And we can't blame them -- they're a lot of fun! Many of our packages include one or more of these popular Belize Adventures

Excursions to these popular jungle sites are provided in a number of ways by tour operators: 1) Some operators function only on the mainland and provide services at bare-minimum standards; 2) Some tour operators use busses and take 20, 30 or more people at a time; 3) And then there is the St. George’s Caye Experience -- We not only provide boat transfers as part of our tours; we take only small groups from the resort and our top-notch professional guides give personalized tours during which everyone can hear the information.

Our premium service costs a bit more and that has been mentioned several times in online reviews. Although we will not diminish the quality of our tour experience in order to offer the cheapest prices, we are sensitive to how much a vacation can cost, and so we are always seeking ways to reduce costs and pass the savings on to our guests.

GOOD NEWS!

Cap'n Ron has just reduced the prices for our most popular tours -- by over 20% when we have 4 or more guests participating!

We hope this makes it so that even more of our guests can enjoy mainland adventure tours and make unforgettable memories in Belize.

New Children's Book Featuring St. George's Caye

New Children's Book Featuring St. George's Caye

Hot off the press! A children's book not to be missed. Spin the Globe children's book series has released its latest edition featuring Belize. In Spin the Globe: The Incredible Adventures of Frederick von Wigglebottom - Turtles of the Reef (italic), the main character Frederick travels to the sandy island paradise of St. George's Caye Belize.

A Fun Introduction to Belize

In Belize, Fredrick meets two native children who introduce him to the unique culture and history of Belize. "Tonight the globe stops on Belize, the Pearl of the Caribbean." says author Edward Moldenhauer. "Frederick grabs his trusty journal and prepares to explore St George's Caye. Together with K'ayab and Hayá, Frederick releases two sea turtles back on the coral reef at the Great Blue Hole. He learns about the diverse Belizean, Mayan and Garinagu cultures and the animals of the reef and jungle."

Turtles of the Reef  features our very own Captain Ron and another little surprise so be sure to check out the book! The series aims to entertain and enrich our knowledge of people and places around the World. Like many good children's stories Spin the Globe Series began as bedtime tales the author told to his children. Makes a unique gift!

b2ap3_thumbnail_FvWb-character.pngWhere To Buy

Beginning this weekend you can find copies of Turtles of the Reef  in our specialty gift shop at the Resort. Can't make it here? Find the e-book online right away or order a soft cover copy. While you're online check out the other books in Edward's series and enjoy learning about Australia, Peru and Norway as well!

Excerpt and Photos from the Book

"As the scientists prepared the turtles to be released back into the ocean, Frederick snorkeled around and was marveled by all the magnificent colors of the fish and coral around him. Once the two turtles were gently placed in the water, the pair each gave a quick flick of their flippers and zip… off they went into the deep blue water. Frederick thought they looked incredibly graceful as they glided away into the distance. He tried to think of a word to describe all that he saw around him. ‘This is so relaxing and beautiful, this is what serenity must look like’ he reflected."
